On November 3, 2009 Kate Winslet won a libel lawsuit receiving $40,000 from the British magazine: Daily Mail. A libel lawsuit is defined as anything: that is in writing, print, signs, or pictures and damages a person’s reputation. So the reason that Kate was filing this type of lawsuit against the Daily Mail was because they accused her of lying about her work out regime.

But the Daily Mail doesn’t just say a few words and that is the end of it, they are thoroughly going at Kate Winslet. They have quotes from earlier years and complain about how she has switched from being “their Kate” from England to a starlet in Hollywood.

(Quoted from People Magazine) “I strongly believe that women should be encouraged to accept themselves as they are, so to suggest that I was lying was an unacceptable accusation of hypocrisy,” the 33-year-old mother of two said in a statement. In January, Winslet told reporters she was going “easy” on herself and not exercising at all during the hectic awards season.

After Kate Winslet went to High Court in London, the Daily Mail decided that they would apologize for what they printed earlier in the year and that they would pay for the damage that they caused and all of her legal costs.

Winslet was quoted saying: “I am delighted that the Mail have apologized for making false allegations about me,”

I agree that Kate had a strong argument for starting this lawsuit. Being accused of lying about something that you feel very strongly about is wrong, especially when they are people that have so much power in the media. And this one article could have started crazy rumors about Kate Winslet and could have caused a lot of damage to her career. Because this started overseas, it might have taken longer to reach the United States but it would have gotten here eventually, and the media would have had a field day talking about this Oscar winning starlet lying about how she has obtained the body she has after having two kids! If something like that would have happened I am not sure how it would have affected her creditability.

If I was Adam Lambert’s PR agent I would have him apologize to the American people either on national television or tell him to have his own press release. I would encourage him to talk about why he wanted to make his performance so risqué and what he thought the reaction of the people was going to be.

I would ask him to explain himself in a way that wouldn’t put blame on anyone, and wouldn’t accuse American’s for being homophobic. One thing I would make sure to tell him is that he should not be sorry for who he is but should apologize for his behavior which was inappropriate for the event.

. I think he should have mentioned something to his producers about it, but I feel that it should be on the same level as the Madonna/Britney kiss in an earlier music awards show.

As Lambert’s agent I would also make sure that he doesn’t try to please people by not being himself, I think it would be better for him to present himself as he is and have other people come to the understanding that this is one kind of person and this is how  he acts.

I would have him possibly tone down his attitude, wild side, or language but I would make sure that what he is saying is truly how he feels.

I suspect that this way of presenting Adam Lambert would agree with the Code of Ethics presented by the PRSA and we wouldn’t be breaking any of their rules.

Together they go to the best wedding planner in New York Marion St. Claire. As the movie plays out we find out that Marion’s secretary has made a major error in the dates of these two best friends’ weddings, she has scheduled them both on the SAME DAY June 6^th. After both women make it clear that the other does not want to change the date of their wedding… the war starts.

Liv turns Emma’s spray tan from a light golden brown to orange and Emma turns Liv’s hair blue.More and more things start going wrong up until the day of the wedding these to women are both feuding with each other.

In this movie there are a lot of products that they pop up in the background or subtly in the hands of the characters or simply placed on a table or in a closet. Some of the products that I have found in this movie were:

The Plaza Hotel, Ipods/Iphones, Northface, Dolce and Gabanna, Tiffany & Co., Splenda, Budweiser, Dell, Mac/Apple, Burberry, Vera Wang, Bloomingdale’s, Tropicana, Diet Pepsi, Black Berry, Sprint, Victoria Secret, American Express, Mystic Tan, Cosmopolitan, Babys R’ Us, Advil, Fiji water, and Chanel.

All of these multi-million dollar companies spend millions of dollars in advertising every year, and this movie just added to their sales and promotion of these products.

These companies will have put their products in this movie because they want to get women to buy the designer clothes and dream for a Tiffany’s engagement ring. Showing people how they can look perfect for their weddings as long as they have a Vera Wang wedding dress.

Because this movie can be considered a “chick flick” most of the products placed in this movie will appeal to women. But the Budweiser clearly shows that this movie wanted to make sure that if men went to see it they would know that men who drink Budweiser can get girls that look like Anne Hathaway and Kate Hudson.

Two products that I think had the biggest effect in this movie was the Plaza Hotel and the Tiffany & Co. engagement rings. I think this because the Plaza Hotel was the dream location for both weddings, it was the reason all of the conflict started. The Plaza Hotel played a large and prominent role in this movie, it was the only place to have a wedding. With average women obsessing over having the perfect wedding while watching this movie they will feel that the only way to have that, is if their wedding too is at the Plaza Hotel. And this obsession and thought of being perfect at the Plaza is exactly what they want for business, it will spark influxes of scheduled wedding dates no matter what the price.

For first ten minutes of the movie both Anne Hathaway and Kate Hudson would only talk about getting that little blue box with the white ribbon and how that was the only engagement ring that they wanted, and if it didn’t come in that little blue box it wasn’t worth the money or the time of picking one out. Because of this constant talking about Tiffany’s it influences other women to only desire that kind of engagement ring, making all of their boyfriends buying those kinds of rings.

I am sure that specifically the Plaza Hotel and Tiffany & Co. received an immense increase in sales and revenue because of the products they placed in this movie.

This movie emphasized the fact that alcohol in advertisements are very glamorized, that the ads always show the high point or positives of drinking and alcohol; but they will never show the low points or the negatives. They explained how advertisers exploit the idea of if you drink you will meet and beautiful woman, or you will end up in bed with one or more girls even if you are just an average looking guy.

One effective strategy that this movie had that previous movies did not; was they had kids speaking their mind and talking about either their own personal experiences or ones that they have watched their friends go through. All of them agreed that the way drinking is portrayed in movies makes getting completely wasted a right of passage. That kids need to drink to be accepted in college and it is also just thought of as something that everyone does, no one really takes into consideration the negative effects of alcohol because they are never shown in movies or ads or any other type of media.

One thing that was mentioned often was how kids because that is what they are expected to do, and then they think they can just turn off the drinking habits once they leave college. But the reality is that they are turning themselves into full-fledged alcoholics. This happens because students drink so heavily in college that they don’t know how to “turn it off” when they leave and their not kids anymore.

This movie went into specifics about men and women, which I thought was fascinating because it really tried to tell you that for men drinking was all about how much you could drink and if you could get in bed with someone by the end of the night. Whereas with women they drink because it is said that a girl should be good and studious during the day, but be a bad drinking machine at night. And most woman don’t drink beer because they want to avoid the calories so they drink hard liquor which ends up intoxicating them quicker than if they would have drank the beer. And a lot of times woman will make themselves so drunk that they throw up at the end of the night just so they can avoid gaining the calories from the drinks which can lead to serious eating disorders.

I thought that this movie was exceptional! I really enjoyed watching it and realizing that the media has the biggest role in making kids think that it is okay to drink before they are twenty one and drinking excessive amounts.

This was the book that got me interested in reading, and it is reason that I am reading FOR FUN today. This was the first book that grabbed my attention and took my eyes away from the television. I was so captivated by the story line, and I was so in love with the magical qualities that I refused to put the book down. I had never even heard of anything like this book before, I was mesmerized by the power and intensity of the book.

When I read these books I would lock myself in my room for hours with nothing but the book and maybe a bottle of water, I was completely consumed by the phenomenon.

I had heard about Harry Potter from ALL of my friends, I was convinced I was the last person in the world to have read this book. My friends would tell me all the time that Harry Potter was “sooooooooo goooooooooood” that I HAD to read it because it was the only thing they wanted to talk about.

So obviously the NEXT DAY I had my mom go out and buy me the book so I couldn’t be left out of the conversations any longer.

To this day I am the biggest Harry Potter fan that I know. I have intense conversations with my friends and family about what happened in the book, (or the movie because some of my family has refused to read the books) and what are favorite parts are.

For example, I have also read the final Harry Potter book and I do not think it was as well constructed as J.K. Rowling’s other books. I did not like that she elaborated on certain parts of the story and had much less detail on parts of the story that I felt were more important.

And what made me even ANGRIER about this novel was that the epilogue was not its own book. I personally feel that she rushed through this book and did not put enough effort in; that she was working more with a deadline for her fans then making the best book that she could.

As you can see I am very passionate about these books, they will always be my favorite and have a special place in my life.

Reading this series has had a very interesting impact on the types of books I read now. I am more prone to reading novels in series, because I do not like the fact that the book ends when I reach the back cover. And I am also more inclined to picking fiction novels because of how I relate to the characters because Harry Potter was my first novel. I also feel like can picture the stories better if they haven’t actually happened in real life.

I know, you might be thinking why on earth is she still watching Disney channel? Well, to answer your question I find the shows very entertaining and funny; I love the “child” humor. And this channel has always been reliable, I know if I turn this channel on something cheerful will be on TV.

Disney owns more things then I even want to think about and that is why it would be so easy for them to cross-promote on any one of their many other media.

Disney has so much power and pull in so many industries; you will see Hannah Montana everywhere.

Hannah Montana will appear everywhere; on lunch boxes, pens, there will be season DVD’s, costumes, talking about the show and everyone on it on the radio, and have her on the cover of magazines. Hannah Montana is a social icon; you cannot stare at this blonde haired, blue eyed girl and not know who she is and what she represents.

After a show ends on ABC the stylish Hannah Montana “Best of Both Worlds” theme song starts playing and that beautiful girl comes on the screen, in her trendy outfits, while a snippet of an episode plays. It catches your attention because it is fun and captivating; this girl is so happy and joyful, that you watch her show because you’re so interested.

On radio Disney the show hosts tell the listening audience about an up and coming sensation, a singer Hannah Montana will be having a concert in the coming year and wants everyone that listens to Disney and beyond to come and see the show. The hosts continue telling the audience that the concert will incorporate the live audience and will be fun for people of all ages.

While walking through the mall near your hometown, you come to this large glass window and see this cut out of a cute kid with blonde hair, holding a mic, and rockin’ out to music that you can only hear if you walk inside the store. Once you walk in, you are bombarded with this girls face on everything from t-shirts to pens and bed sets to costumes and plates! You’re wondering who this girl is and what she is doing on so many different things.

Imagine you’re walking down a street in Manhattan, and you pass a news stand. The first thing that catches your eye is this pink and purple magazine. Which has this blonde hair, blue eyed girl on the cover. It says that she is having a concert and tells you all about her show on Disney channel. Inside the magazine it goes on telling you more about her, her show, and how she landed this universal role of being a teen pop sensation!

Hannah Montana is everywhere, and everyone can relate to her.

Can you see yourself passing a magazine like this, or watching a twelve year old girl cry to her mother telling her she wants this lunch box?

Everyone by this year will be completely computer literate because everything from ordering food to shopping will be done on the computer or using kiosks or some kind of technology.

Cars will no longer need to have keys and even blind people will be able to drive (and fly) cars because you just will need to type in your destination and your car will automatically take you there. No hassles, no worries, just easy leisurely coasting.

And video chatting capabilities like Skype will be the normal telephone and cell phones will be even more advanced because you will be able to video call people from cell phones too!

These are the things I think about in my utopian future  and I cannot wait to see what actually becomes reality and what I have to wait even longer for.

In the year 2035 our technology will have taken a turn for the worst. Our home will be feuding with other countries. And our entire world will be on edge waiting for the next nuclear war.

Everyone that was creating and improving technology decided they were going to be selfish and want millions of dollars for ideas that were only half tested. So no one ever finished creating anything.

The world will be a dark and gloomy place if this happens within the next twenty-five years. These are the things that come to mind when I think of the worst possible scenario for our world.

My life in the information age will not change a terrible amount, I will probably be one of those parents that always has to ask their kids for help because they don’t understand all the “advanced” technology because “back in my day” nothing was this complicated.

I hope that communication technologies advance to the point where you could be millions of miles away from someone and feel that you were standing right next to them.

I hope that in the future it will be easier to keep in touch with people with ease. BlackBerry’s will be a thing of the past and something more advanced then the Google and iPhone will have come out. (Personally, I am hoping for something without a touch screen, but I think that is very unlikely. I think I am one of very few people who actually prefer buttons!)

I think that the mass communication field will have to come up with a very unique way to get information and advertising to people. People in the mass communication field will have to merge with the telephone companies to become more satellite compatible, and to advertise and bring media straight to peoples phones.

I decided to choose this one because it is something people always talk about, and its context gives you a lot to talk about.

This blogs purpose I would say is to show people at moments that they might not want to be remembered for. A wild night of partying fun is normally what comes to mind when thinking of Perez Hilton and his blog.

His content can be a little biased or skewed based on whether he likes you or not, but for the most part he is completely accurate with his sittings and telling you what actually happened in his pictures.

His style is interpretive, obviously if he is talking about you, you are going to think he is going to be a mean man (to put it nicely) and that he leaked pictures that showed you at your worst. But if you’re the reader, you would think his view could be either funny or hurtful (depending on whether or not you like the actor he is “poking fun” at).

His audience would be anyone who is into celebrity gossip and keeping themselves informed.

I would say that his blog is very interactive and user friendly, he has areas for people to send him tips and a place where people can comment on his posts. He shows music and pictures and videos. If he mentions a celebrity in a post, he links their name to all other posts their name appears in. He also has advertisements around the borders to help keep people in the “know” of the latest trends.

The next blog I chose is a blog about the Washington Redskins (the football team, in case you didn’t know).

I chose this one because I enjoy football and the Redskins are a team my whole family likes.

This blog is very different from Perez Hilton not only because it is about sports and not gossip but because it looks at the Redskins from a different perspective. It doesn’t just talk about game after game, and who did what, he makes the interviews and press conferences from to life.

His content can be a little skewed and biased just because I the man running the site is a Redskins fan, but I see no other reason for any of his information to be wrong or unreliable.

I would say his style is simple and easy to read, for the “average joe” watching his favorite football team. His audience is any Redskins fan, or someone that is interested in keeping up with how they are doing.

Chris Cooley’s blog is very interactive, it has a lot of pictures and videos and “cool media” to check out. You can comment on his blog or visit other blogger’s sites that also talk about the Redskins. Not to mention all of the Redskin advertising he has all over the boarders of the web page.

Finally I decided to choose a blog that was business related so I chose a blog named: The Forrester Blog for Consumer Market Research Professionals. I chose this blog because it seemed different and interesting.

This blog is more for companies and other professionals in the field that are looking for tips or who just want to keep up with what is happening.

An interesting thing about this blog is that different people can post on it. Which makes its style very unique; it is not something you see every day.

They try and make their site very interactive, although they are not as successful as the other two sites were. They have a lot of pictures and videos and polls and such, but it seems that readers can only learn what is on the site and post comments. The only other type of interactivity that they have is that you can search posts by topic.

As you can see these three blogs are very different, they vary in style, audience, context and just about everything else. I prefer Perez Hilton’s blog. I think it is the most fun to read and definitely captures my attention the most with the big pictures that “are worth a thousand words”.

If I were to continue blogging I am actually not sure which type of blog I would create. I might create a blog about my life (like a diary) because it is simple and would help me talk about my life. Or I might choose to create a blog about where ever I find a job and see if people could help me with my work and find out what other people are doing in my field.

I guess not knowing what type of blog I would choose to have makes it kind of difficult to tell you what kind of readers I am looking to have or the style I would be writing in, or what kind of things I would make available on my blog for me readers.

Every day my phone is used as my alarm clock and it loudly plays Lady Gaga’s “Starstruck”. I love that song! But almost falling out of my bed every morning because it is so loud doesn’t make me like it so much anymore… =]

After that I  turn my computer on, check my email and get ready for a long day at school. While I am getting ready 99% of the time I have my music on. I am OBSSESED with the songs: Down by Jay Sean, Replay by Iyaz and Whatcha Say by Jason Derulo. My roommates will tell you I have those three songs on repeat ALL the time =].

While I am going to class, (sometimes in class) and when classes are over you will see me texting. I don’t care who it is or for how long I am talking to you. If I am not texting I feel like I am not doing anything. I like to keep busy and keep my fingers moving, so texting is my favorite American past time.

When I come back to my room, there are a few days when I get right down to the nitty-gritty and get some homework done. But majority of the time I will get to my dorm; put my music on and start facebook surfing. I’ll do anything to keep myself from doing homework (i.e. the reason this is being done the day it is due).

While I am on the computer I don’t always just go on facebook (although that is my homepage =]) there are those times when I go on the Towson website and check my email, and will surf the Towson website, because I am still a freshman and I don’t know how to navigate it that well yet.

I almost constantly check my three bank accounts and my second email address, I have come to love checking to see how many meals I have left on my onecard. (Like I said I LOVE to do anything but homework.)

Specifically the day that I was tracking my media was this past Monday, and I am a diehard fan of One Tree Hill the TV series. Its 7th season premier was on Monday, so I watched an hour of One Tree Hill and then, I am a Gossip Girl addict AND that premiered the same night as One Tree Hill so I obviously spent two hours of my day watching TV and all the commercials that came along with it.

As you can tell by my average day of media, going without it was a very difficult challenge…

I do not have any other kind of alarm clock in my dorm room besides my phone, so I didn’t start the day off so well with no media… I woke up to Lady Gaga again… =[ and I also answered the texts that I had received while I was sleeping  =[. I was really not doing well…

But I got better throughout the day, I didn’t text ANYONE! I only read the messages that I received (does that count as not using media =/ ?)

I went through an entire day without texting and I thought I was going to die! I was always so antsy and I needed to do something with my hands so badly, I started chewing on my finger nails. That is not even a habit that I do all the time… =/

But my day somehow continued to get worse… I came back to my dorm room and it was just one of those days that I was not going to be doing homework. I didn’t know what to do with myself, I told myself I was NOT allowed to go on the computer or use internet. It was very hard coming up with something else to do. I tried talking to my suitemates, but they were all doing homework… and I couldn’t bring myself to do any. So I realized I had brought the novel “Breaking Dawn” by Stephenie Meyer to school with me because I had finished every other book in the (Twilight) series and I wanted to see how it ended. I am still not done with the book but it was the one thing that I did find to keep me occupied while I wasn’t allowing myself to use the computer!  =]

I did break down though, it was 10 PM and I couldn’t read anymore, and I was going crazy out of my mind, and I turned my computer on.

I felt defeated. I lost a twenty four hour battle with media… =[
